The following is a great article on how/why ketosis can be helpful for anyone suffering this (or any) condition. That said, although I agree that metabolic conditions are highly problematic and pose a key risk factor for cytokine storms, I take a little bit of issue with the term “metabolic flexibility.” It takes time (weeks and even months of diligent effort for some) to fully adopt effective ketogenic adaptation, and no human body flips back and forth between primary sugar burning and primary EKA fat burning on a dime (unless you’re talking about the kind of sugar burning that comes with extremely strenuous, anaerobic exercise or emergency situations where the body does naturally flip over to the very short-term use of glucose as “rocket fuel” when needed).

Unlike Asprey and also (seemingly) Joe Mercola, I am also not a fan of using large doses of even C8 MCT oil… It should NOT be necessary, for one. Particularly if you are already adapted to an effective state of ketogenic metabolism. In such an instance this “extra ketone production” entirely redundant, and quite possibly not healthy. The goal is not “more ketones are better”… But instead the goal should be manufacturing and utilizing your own ketones in as efficient a manner as possible. In extremely well adapted persons ketone levels actually come down over time. This doesn’t mean that your body is leaving ketosis, but rather that your body has developed an increased level of efficiency of production/utilization. This is a perfectly natural and very good thing!

I do agree that ketone esters (but avoiding trendy racemic ketone supplements) can be extremely helpful against things like ionizing radiation, inducing short-term effective ketosis, and especially for its potential “bicycle training wheels” effect in adopting a more beneficial, long-term state of effective ketogenic/Primalgenic® adaptation. I always recommend using KetoneAid brand for this. Contact Frank LLosa at KetoneAid for more information, and also you can access my interview with Frank and additional resources for doing this through my Primalgenic® Plan program!
